About us

Hops is a bike shop that started with two guys who realized they both shared a similar passion for bikes and were each looking to build something a little different for Teton Valley, and a place where high-quality service was the focal point.

After one long conversation, Jim and Jer both realized they had found a great potential business partner in each other. From there, things took off quickly and suddenly the dream to open a shop of their own, was in motion.

Our goal is to create a shop where service work is reliable and done right from the start. Where genuine relationships are built between owners, staff and customers. Where like minded bike enthusiasts can meet and socialize. And hopefully a place where YOU feel you can trust the guys you take your beloved bike to.

So where did the name come from? The name Hops came from Jim, and a simple word association exercise. Bunny hops are one of his favorite things to do on a bike, and enjoying a good beer after a ride…well, it lead him to the word HOPS! (Hint. Hint. We just might have bigger plans centered around this name as well!) And so a bike shop name was born. Plus it’s simply fun to say.

We are honored to bring this new shop to the Teton Valley, that we so love, so that we all may fully enjoy this amazing hobby/sport that binds us together.

Jim has been on a bike since he was 2 years old, demanding at age 4 that his training wheels be removed, and has loved bikes ever since. For Jim, bikes have always been a form of freedom, starting with him riding his bmx bike around his small home towns of northern Wisconsin, allowing him to explore.

Jim later began to pursue a passion for the mountains and exploration, and completed a Ski Area Management degree. This led Jim to Vail, Colorado spending much of his 20s skiing in the backcountry exploring and working in terrain parks, as well as meeting his future wife, Lisa. In that time, Jim rediscovered a love for biking, and this time as a mountain biker. Reconnecting with this passion, he found himself in his first bike shop job, and eventually landed at Moontime Cyclery alongside owner Frank Mitchell, who became his bike shop mentor. Jim earned his mechanics certificates from Barnett’s Bicycle Institute, and received constant instruction and hands-on education, working side by side with Frank at Moontime for over 8 years. Jim has become a well-rounded, detailed focused bike mechanic. He is known for being an informative, customer focused salesperson and mechanic.

Jim moved to Driggs, Idaho with Lisa, their daughter June, and two dogs Dude and Dame in March of 2023. It is now time to fulfill a dream of owning his own shop, and he is excited to do that alongside his wife Lisa and business partner Jeremiah Keavney. When not at the bike shop, Jim can be found riding his mountain bikes every chance he gets, coaching football for Teton High School, and spending time with his family.

Jer’s love for bikes began growing up and riding around Salmon, Idaho on his BMX bikes. At 12-years-old he purchased his first mountain bike from the local Coast to Coast store, then spent the summer working to pay off the $120 investment. (See if you can spot Jer’s original mountain bike on display in the Hops Cyclery shop.)

Jer’s professional path has taken many roads - living and working in Antarctica and New Zealand, river guiding, restaurant management, and car sales. Most recently, Jer has owned and operated a custom painting and staining business in Teton Valley since 2015.

2023 proved to be a pivotal year for Jer as he decided to sunset his painting business and focus on his lifelong passion for bikes. He has completed a month of training at United Bicycle Institute in Ashland, Oregon, receiving certifications in general bike maintenance and repair, wheel building, and suspension servicing and repair. Owning a bike shop has been a dream of Jer’s for many years, and he is incredibly excited to bring this dream to fruition as Hops Cyclery in partnership with Jim and Lisa. Jer lives in Victor with his partner, Jaime, and their two dogs, Telly and Cisco, and enjoys riding year-round on his mountain, gravel and fat tire bikes.
