About us

Hops is your local bike shop that started with a guy (Jim) and his wife (Lisa), who realized there was a need in the valley for a full-time, year around bike shop. JIm wanted to build something a little different for Teton Valley, a place where high-quality service was the focal point.

Our goal is to create a shop where the service work is reliable, professional and done right from the start. Where genuine relationships are built between owners and customers. Where like minded bike enthusiasts can meet and socialize. And hopefully a place where YOU feel you can trust the people you take your beloved bike to.

So where did the name come from? The name Hops came from a simple word association exercise that Lisa challenged Jim with. Bunny hops are one of his favorite bike tricks, and a good beer tops the list of Jim’s favorite things - and well, it lead Jim to the word HOPS! (Hint. Hint. We just might have bigger plans centered around this name as well!) And so a bike shop name was born. Plus it’s simply fun to say.

We are honored to bring this new shop to the Teton Valley, that we so love, so that we all may fully enjoy this amazing hobby/sport that binds us together.

  • Owner | Service & Sales

Jim has been on a bike since he was 2 years old, demanding at age 4 that his training wheels be removed, and has loved bikes ever since. For Jim, bikes have always been a form of freedom, starting with him riding his bmx bike around his small home towns of northern Wisconsin, allowing him to explore.

Jim later began to pursue a passion for the mountains and exploration, and completed a Ski Area Management degree. This led Jim to Vail, Colorado spending much of his 20s skiing in the backcountry exploring and working in terrain parks, as well as meeting his future wife, Lisa. In that time, Jim rediscovered a love for biking, and this time as a mountain biker. Reconnecting with this passion, he found himself in his first bike shop job, and eventually landed at Moontime Cyclery alongside owner Frank Mitchell, who became his bike shop mentor. Jim earned his mechanics certificates from Barnett’s Bicycle Institute, and received constant instruction and hands-on education, working side by side with Frank at Moontime for over 8 years. Jim has become a well-rounded, detailed focused bike mechanic. He is known for being an informative, customer focused salesperson and mechanic.

Jim moved to Driggs, Idaho with Lisa, their daughter June, and two dogs Dude and Dame in March of 2023. It is now time to fulfill a dream of owning his own shop, and he is excited to do that alongside his wife Lisa. When not at the bike shop, Jim can be found riding his mountain bikes every chance he gets, coaching football for Teton High School, and spending time with his family.
